Emergency Department

Emergency Department

North Memorial is consistently identified by Twin Cities residents as the most preferred hospital for emergency care*. Our Emergency Department staff, led by critical care nurses and board-certified emergency physicians, will treat nearly 80,000 patients this year alone. To help accommodate our community's ever-growing population and diverse emergency care needs, we recently renovated and expanded our existing facility.

The new design, one of few of its kind in the nation, was inspired by staff and patient feedback. It increases the number of patient beds in the department from 34 to 48. All rooms are private, and each one is flexible in terms of which types of illnesses and injuries can be treated, reducing the time a patient might otherwise wait for an appropriate room to become available.

Other enhancements include a softer, more healing environment. Our lobby features natural lighting and a new children's play area. A private, secured corridor outside our patient rooms offers seating areas for families should they need to step out momentarily.

Our Emergency Department exceeds national best practice levels for quality of care, turn-around times and patient satisfaction. For example, recent initiatives have helped us process lab results in less time than the national average, allowing caregivers to more quickly assess a patient's condition and render appropriate treatment. And for cardiac patients, we've taken steps to streamline access to the catheterization lab - expediting care and improving outcomes.

North Memorial has also been identified as the metro area's most conveniently located hospital*, which is particularly important when unexpected health problems arise. You will find us just off County Road 81 in Robbinsdale. Whatever your emergency, North Memorial is here for you.
