At North Memorial, we can help ensure that student athletes in your family are in good health before they take to the court, track or field this school year.
Physical Exams
A routine physical exam is an important part of anyone’s long-term plan for good health, and in the case of a student athlete, a physical may be required before he or she can participate in an activity. The Minnesota State High School League states in its activities eligibility bylaws, "Students must have a record of a physical examination performed by a physician within the previous three years on file with the school prior to the student’s participation." Check with your child’s school with questions about their specific requirements.
North Memorial offers more than a dozen primary care clinic locations where students can undergo a routine physical exam, and urgent care locations offer this service without an appointment. Find a North Memorial Clinic near you.
Concussion Injury Assessments
North Memorial Rehabilitation Services is working with area high schools and youth organizations to help ensure a safe return to activity for young athletes after they have suffered an injury — particularly after a concussion. As part of this effort, we offer a quick and inexpensive pre-injury health assessment that could prove invaluable when treating a young athlete after a concussion.
Research has demonstrated that neurocognitive testing is a cornerstone of proper post-injury care and contributes significantly to the understanding of recovery following a concussion. The neurocognitive assessment we provide is called ImPACT" (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing). It’s a computer-based assessment that takes about 30 minutes to complete for a nominal fee. Learn more about this unique exam and how to participate.
