North Memorial Medical Center's general visiting hours are 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. After 8:00 p.m., visitors must enter through the Emergency Department entrance or the main entrance off of Oakdale Avenue. At the entrance, you will receive a color-coded visitor pass from the security officer on duty. Passes are required after regular visiting hours and are issued in collaboration with nursing staff on the unit where you intend to go. If you are already in a patient care area and are approved to stay after hours by the charge nurse of the unit, you will be issued a pass on the unit.
Visitors with a fever, rash or communicable illness, such as cold or flu, should delay visiting until they are well. If you have questions or concerns, please stop at the nurses' station before visiting a patient.
Several areas within the hospital have special visiting hours. Please refer to the following list for detailed information.
Clinical Decision Unit
One visitor is allowed in the patient's room 30 minutes each hour.
Crisis Intervention
Visiting hours are 4:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. daily. On weekends and holidays, noon to 1 p.m. is an additional option. In general, visitors are limited to family members older than age 18. However, to meet patient and family needs, other arrangements for visitors may be made with Crisis Intervention staff. It is recommended that visitors contact the patient in advance to arrange a visiting time.
Emergency Department
Upon arrival, visitors of Emergency Department patients are issued a visitor pass by the Safety and Security officer present at the entrance to the department. While visitors are welcome, the number of visitors who may accompany the patient is limited to one visitor per adult patient, and two visitors per pediatric patient. Patients with special needs may require more than one adult to accompany them during the emergency visit. In such cases, the charge nurse will determine the appropriate number of visitors.
Hospice
Visiting hours are 24 hours a day with no limitations. Sleeping provisions can be made for family members.
Obstetrics
Immediate family members are welcome anytime with consideration for the mother's and baby's needs for rest and bonding. Other visitors are encouraged to follow the hospital visiting hours of 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. For the safety of newborns, those people with communicable diseases, such as colds or chicken pox, should not visit.
Recovery Room
For the safety of patients, visitors are not allowed in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (recovery room).
