Diabetes Classes and Support Groups

Diabetes Support Group

Day support group

Held at North Memorial Outpatient Center in Diabetes Department, Robbinsdale This support group is held on the second Monday of each month from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. The first part of each meeting covers a topic related to diabetes. The last part of the session is comprised of group discussion.

Please note: Registration is not required, and there is no charge for this group.

Pre-Diabetes Class
Day and Evening classes

Held at North Memorial Outpatient Center in Diabetes Department, Robbinsdale, WestHealth, Plymouth and/or the North Memorial Medical Building, Maple Grove. This one-part class is offered twice a month for two hours; its focus is meal planning and exercise.

Please note: Pre-registration is required, along with a small fee.

Self-Management Classes
Evening Class Series

Held at the North Memorial Medical Building, Maple Grove. This two-part class series is held on two consecutive Thursdays every other month. The series are held in the conference room located on lower level.

Held at WestHealth, Plymouth. This two-part class series is held on two consecutive Thursdays every other month. The series are held in the Annapolis conference room located on the first floor.

Diabetes and Pregnancy
These one-on-one sessions provide individual instruction for women with diabetes who are or plan to become pregnant, as well as for women who develop gestational diabetes. Three sessions help women manage diabetes from before conception until after delivery of their babies. Topics include:

  • Preconception instruction for women with diabetes Blood glucose monitoring
  • Nutritional advice during pregnancy and after delivery
  • Medications that may be needed
  • The importance of diabetes management for the mother and child
  • Breastfeeding issues

Individual Diabetes Instruction
Instructors meet with you to evaluate your needs and help identify lifestyle changes to manage your diabetes. Individual sessions may include instruction on blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration and meal planning. Pre-registration for individual instruction is required and may be done by calling (763) 520-5619.

Please note: There is a fee for all Self-Management classes, Diabetes and Pregnancy and individual diabetes sessions. However, most insurance companies will help pay a portion of your diabetes education. Please check with your physician or insurance carrier for referral and coverage information.
