Real-time monitoring and analysis, heartbeat-by-heartbeat, providing the physician with complete information on atrial fibrillation occurrence and event duration, is available via mobile cardiac outpatient telemetry. The prescribing physician selects patient-specific monitoring thresholds and response parameters. A lightweight three-lead sensor, worn as a pendant (and invisible under clothing) or on a belt clip, records two channels of ECG. The sensor constantly communicates with the mobile monitor, a unit about the size of a Palm Pilot that can be tucked into a pocket or purse. At home, when the monitor detects an arrhythmic event, it automatically transmits the ECG to the monitoring center. When patients are away from home, the portable monitor uses wireless communications to transmit ECG and symptom data. At the monitoring center, certified and experienced cardiac monitoring specialists analyze events, respond appropriately and report results to your cardiologist.
