Sleep and Your Health

Studies have shown that people with sleep apnea increase their risk for diabetes, obesity, hypertension, heart attack, stroke and even sudden cardiac death. Stroke is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. and people with moderate to severe sleep apnea are 2-3 times more likely to have a stroke.

Recent studies also link untreated obstructive sleep apnea to multiple mood and cognitive complaints, including irritability, memory changes, depression and anxiety. Up to 90% of depressed adults have sleep complaints and two-thirds of depressed children and adolescents have significant sleep-onset and sleep maintenance problems.
