Step One: Explore Our Volunteer Opportunities
At North Memorial we have opportunities for all interests, schedules and skill levels. We invite you to browse through the following listings to find the right opportunity that fits your preference and availability. This directory includes volunteer positions for which we are currently recruiting. Please note age requirements for some positions.

Step Two: Review Our Requirements for Volunteering
Before completing an application, we ask that you please review the following requirements for volunteering with us. These are the minimum requirements for becoming a volunteer. Because of the seriousness of volunteering in a health care setting, the screening process and training are extensive. Applicants that do not or cannot meet these requirements will not be considered for volunteer work.

    Requirements Include:
  • A sincere desire to help others and provide service to North Memorial Medical Center.
  • Commitment to volunteer at least one three or four-hour shift each week for six months or a total of at least 60 hours after orientation in one semester or one summer.
  • Completion of an interview.
  • Attending and completion of a two and a half hour volunteer orientation.
  • Completion and passing a Criminal Background Check.
  • Provide proof of immunization or immunity to measles and rubella.
  • Get a volunteer uniform ($15.00 deposit).

Step Three: Application
After reviewing our opportunities and requirements, you may submit an application for us to review. To apply for a volunteer position, you can click on link for appropriate program:
Adult (18 and older out of highschool)
Junior (ages 13-18 still in highschool)

Once your application is received, we will review your application. If your qualifications, background and availability indicate a match to the position/s we have available, you will be contacted by one of our Volunteer Services staff for more information and a pre-screening phone interview.

Step Four: Individual Interview
Upon review and acceptance of your application and after finding a match on availability, interests, qualifications through the phone interview, we will set up an in-person interview within the next two weeks. The interview offers us a chance to discuss further, your application; your schedule and your specific volunteer interests, as well as opportunities we currently have available that would be suitable for you.

Background Check
All adult applicants will need to pass a Minnesota Department of Human Services Background Study and other investigative reports. You will be given forms to complete and sign when you come in to the office for your in-person interview. Once it has been determined through the interview, that your interests, skills and availability are a match for a volunteer position with us, we will submit your background forms for processing.

Step Five: Hospital orientation
If the Volunteer Office and the applicant find a position that would be a good fit, the applicant will be offered a position; A general volunteer orientation and position specific training will be scheduled. Orientations are held once per month. Orientation includes a tour, information on hospital policies and procedures and time for completion of additional paperwork.
